Planck Input Catalog

The goal of the Planck Input Catalog is twofold:

Firstly, it is to generate a more realistic set of point sources for use in simulations of the Planck mission. This requires a 'realistic' range of catalogs rather one catalog based on what we currently know about the sky.

Secondly, we need a catalog that includes what we think Planck will see. This needs to be as real as possible since it will be used to assess the performance of the satellite as data comes down, both for real time verification that things are working well, and for detailed determinations of various calibration factors that use point sources with known positions and/or fluxes.

The Input Catalog team has thus produced two catalogs. One is a realistic catalog based on real point sources but with variable assumptions about their properties. This can be used for simulations. The second is directly based on observed objects and they best possible estimates of their fluxes given what we know about them today. This will be used for predicting Planck's day-to-day output, and for preparing calibration observations.

LATEST NEWS...... A new version of the Input catalog is available correcting some issues with the previous version. See the README file for details. At the moment this applies to the Real Input Catalog only

THERMAL ONLY CATALOG..... Now available a catalog only including thermal fluxes from the sources (ie. non-thermal contributions to model fluxes have been removed), as requested by simulations team. Both these catalogs, and their supporting documentation, are available here.
